The philosophy of the founders of the Kentucky Entrepreneur Network is that if we are helping entrepreneurs, then the organization should have a profit motive (we should be in the same boat as the entrepreneur). At the same time we also acknowledge that our primary motivation is not to generate a profit, but to help our entrepreneurial community. Therefore we chose to structure the company as an L3C, also known as a low-profit limited liability company. This is a relatively new structure that has been adopted by several states. An L3C is a for-profit, social enterprise venture that has a stated goal of performing a socially beneficial purpose, not maximizing income. The primary reason we have chosen this structure is to make the statement that we are for profit, but our primary goal is to support and enhance our entrepreneurial community.
